Bob has given you the correct information. I'm just adding a note that different versions of Office have different defaults or 'original' values. You can always check your version's defaults using these steps:. Close Word. Hold down the Alt key while clicking on the Go menu and choosing Library.
Discussion in 'Mac Office Word' started by mdurney, Sep 8, 2004. How can I remove the right-pointing arrow on the far right of the 'Ribbon' toolbar (and all other toolbars) that allows users to access the 'Customize' panel? So I was typing along in Microsoft Word on a Mac, when all of a sudden I was writing over all of the text -- as if I had pressed the Insert key on a PC. Nothing is listed on any of the menus, or when I searched the help field (that's because the Mac calls it 'overtype,' which I didn't know at the time).

Those are the defaults for the Normal paragraph style. The 'original' specification for indentation is that text is flush with the margin, or zero. Spacing between paragraphs is based on the standard of single line spacing, which is, in turn, based on the leading value defined by the font designer for the font. The typical leading i.e., line spacing value for most fonts is 120% of the font size.
The Spacing Before/After values are used to increase the spacing between paragraphs without changing the actual line spacing of the paragraphs. The default for those values also is zero. It isn't clear what you perceive to be a 'problem'.
Can you please explain in more descriptive detail? Please mark HELPFUL or ANSWERED as appropriate to keep list as clean as possible ☺ Regards, Bob J.
